Job Title: Costume Manager

ABOUT US

DanceAspen is Aspen’s premier professional dance company dedicated to bringing high caliber performing arts to the Roaring Fork Valley. We are currently seeking a highly organized and creative Costume Manager to join our team. This individual will play a vital role in ensuring that our performers look their best and our costumes are meticulously maintained for each production.

This is a very part-time hourly position that can be coordinated with other jobs and a lot of the work can be accomplished on the individual’s time. Costume fittings and performances will be scheduled in advance.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Costume Organization: Maintain a well-organized costume inventory, ensuring costumes are easily accessible and ready to use for performances throughout the season.

  • Costume Alterations: Perform alterations and repairs to costumes as needed to ensure a perfect fit and appearance. Proficiency in sewing and tailoring is essential.

  • Costume Preparation: Collaborate with the production team to prepare and lay out costumes for shows, making sure each performer has the appropriate attire for their role.

  • Costume Ordering: Assist in the procurement of costumes, fabric, and accessories for productions, including sourcing and ordering materials as required.

  • Fitting Sessions: Coordinate and conduct costume fitting sessions with the artists to ensure proper sizing and comfort. Maintain accurate records of costume measurements.

  • Maintenance: Oversee regular cleaning, repair, and maintenance of costumes to extend their lifespan. Manage costume laundry and dry-cleaning.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with the costume designer, production team, and cast members to ensure a cohesive look for each production.

  • Inventory Tracking: Keep meticulous records of costume items, noting their condition, and tracking their use in various shows.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience as a Costume Manager or seamstress.

  • Proficiency in sewing, tailoring, and costume alterations. Knowledge of dance attire is a plus. Has the machines and tools necessary to make alterations.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.

  • Knowledge of costume design and fabrics is a plus.

  • Creativity and problem-solving skills.

  • A passion for the performing arts and a commitment to the success of each production.
